Jiggity Jig

Home again, home again!

Yesterdays trip from Fort Lauderdale to West Virginia was a breeze, the only rough part was the 5 am wake up.  I had a fun surprise on the second leg, my neighbor from childhood was on the plane!  Torula is like my second mother and it was an unexpected pleasure to be able to visit with her for an uninterrupted hour and a half.

I headed straight to my mom’s house for lunch.  I was so hungry and was very happy to see this lovely lunch headed to the table.

Yum, lemongrass soup.

Oven-roasted zucchini, cauliflower, and potatoes, num num…
Just what I needed!
Flying makes me so hungry!  I planned ahead and broke my breakfast into three parts, plain greek yogurt and banana on the first flight, apple and string cheese upon arrival in Atlanta, and a nonfat cappuccino before boarding my second flight.  It had been WAY too long since I’d had a cappuccino.  I usually go for an Americano when at a coffee shop because the price tag on all of that delicious foam is a little ridiculous but it was totally worth it.
Yesterday was the first day in a long time (over two weeks?) that I didn’t exercise. AT ALL.  Not even a power walk in the Atlanta airport.  I had big plans for at least a quick yoga session when I got home but after unpacking and a bath I was almost too tired to stay awake for dinner with my mother-in-law and brother-in-law.
Today I want to MOVE it, move it! Strength training and a looong yoga session plus some outdoor activity is on the agenda.  My mother-in-law came over from West Virginia for the evening and brought us two bags of flower bulbs so maybe Tate and I will spend the afternoon gardening.  I’ve never planted bulbs before, have you?

Small Planet

I am looking forward to going home tomorrow.

But I am sad to leave Florida and my amazing grandparents!  A return trip will be in order soon.

My grandfather’s recovery is going really well, his doctor said he is ahead of schedule!  He is so pleasant to the staff at the rehab that I really believe they are going to be sad to see him go (although, of course, they will be very happy for him to be going home!).

It’s been really lovely to spend all of this one on one time with my grandmother, she has taught me nearly everything I know about ettiquette and she is an inspiration in a thousand ways.

Today started with a great workout.  I ran a mile to the gym as a warm-up, then jumped on the elliptical for 27 minutes, followed by a strength workout with heavy weights.  I only use 3 and 5 pounders at home and it was fun to go heavy for a day.  Wasting all of that electricity on the elliptical made me feel just a little guilty but it was just what I needed, I spaced out reading US Weekly but still worked hard.

My afternoon was filled with chubby little baby thighs!  My dear friend Cristina came from West Palm Beach and brought her son for me to meet.

He is the sweetest thing!  And adorable!

Cristina and I became friends when I first arrived in Lima.  Her husband is Peruvian and they lived there for about two years.  We quickly became great friends and double dated with them regularly.  I am so happy our friendship has stood the test of another continent!

I am getting picked up at 5:50am for my jaunt back home so it is time to get packing!
