Fulfilled

What a perfect Sunday!

Errands were run (groceries and lots of wine for Thursday).  Cleaning was accomplished.  Living room yoga flowed.  Studying in the sunshine zipped by.

Good food was eaten

Salmon and avocado sushi, a little treat from the grocery store.  It was so good, Tate said “we don’t eat sushi often enough!” and I think he was regretting agreeing to split one roll.  The leftover butternut was delicious too!

A salad from the garden topped us off.

O.k, the greens are from the garden, the pomegranate and pickled ginger are, sadly, from far, far away.

Now that’s some baby spinach!

And fresh air was breathed!  Heavily at times…

Tate and I went on a lovely 10 mile bike ride.  True to Cville’s reputation there were plenty of hills.  Total interval training!  Most of the hills didn’t last more that a minute or so but I was huffing and puffing a few times nonetheless.

I am so looking forward to Thursday!  I LOVE Thanksgiving.  I already started on my dishes, the bread crumbs for the vegetarian stuffing are toasted and I am soaking dried shiitakes for both the stuffing and the gravy.

What’s your favorite Thanksgiving dish?  For me it’s a tie between cranberry sauce and stuffing.

Clothes Are Overrated

Don’t judge.  I didn’t get dressed until 6pm today.  They weren’t my real pajamas but they may as well have been.  We’ll call them “yoga pants” because that sounds like more appropriate Friday afternoon attire.   And I did do yoga in them, a lovely and lively 45 minute practice from exercise tv.

Have you heard that not eating breakfast makes you more hungry?  I did eat breakfast today but it wasn’t until 2 hours after I got up (I just wasn’t hungry and I was busy chatting over coffee with my mother-in-law) and I proceeded to be hungry for the rest of the morning until I filled up on a hearty and early lunch.

Homemade canned garden vegetable soup from that day of domestic madness back in August with 1/2 a cup of mung beans and some sharp cheddar thrown in for protein.

All I want to eat these days is soup!  Must be because of the time of year… I made soup for dinner too but more on that later.  I love that I ate lunch outside in the sunshine and it’s almost Thanksgiving!  I think Virginia and I are going to be compatible in the weather department.

At 5 o’clock Tate and I jumped in the car to catch the last rays of sunshine with a walk on the Monticello Trail.  This trail is a series of boardwalks through the woods and is absolutely gorgeous.  I was glad to see that last week’s rain didn’t take down all of the leaves and the colors are still stunning in places.

I brought my 5# hand-weights with me and did dozens of biceps curls, overhead presses, and triceps on our 30 minute walk.  It was nearly dark by the time we made it back to the parking lot but we had moonshadows!  Must be almost full…

And then came the getting dressed, for real, as in appropriate for dinner with friends.  These friends probably would have welcomed me into their house in my pajamas yoga attire though.  Matt and Kath are those kind of friends.

Dinner was SO GOOD.

I made pumpkin soup, garnished with yogurt, maple syrup, and pumpkin seeds.

It was a total experiment and I think it turned out pretty well, the predominant seasonings were curry powder and garam masala.

Kath made a wheat berry salad that was spot on for texture combinations, with chewy grains, meaty garbanzos, crisp cucumbers, and juicy pomegranate seeds.

Matt stole the show though, hands down.

Oat bran. Flax seeds.  Walnuts.  Honey.  Pure goodness.

We sat down the minute this doughy delectable emerged from the oven.  Now that’s fresh baked.

There was also a bottle of wine and maybe some chocolate involved in the evening.  And lots of talk of bugs.  Yep, just another Friday night in Cville.

Tate and I are going to catch up on How I Met Your Mother and Modern Family and then off to bed.  I work all day tomorrow.  I am so tired and hungry (and it’s dark!) after work that it’s better to get my workout in the morning.

Good night!
