Reindeer Slobber

“Santa brought me a nerf gun!!!!!!!  It’s just what I’ve always wished for!!!!!!!!!!”  [insert sounds of glee and an image of 7:00 a.m. on the clock]

I grew up with a strong paternal Jewish family and Catholic maternal grandparents.  We celebrated Hanukkah and Christmas!  Since our Christmas tradition was to open presents on Christmas Eve we never “did” santa.

This year, Tate and I are spending Christmas at his sister’s and with our niece and nephew.  Finally, I got to see how this whole santa thing works!

Last night the kids made an extra special cookie for their extra special visitor plus some carrots for Rudolf.

The Elf (from the Shelf!) watched over the treats.

Late night, Santa needed a little help 😉

“He ate a leg!”  “And there’s Rudolf slobber on the tray!”

Now I am all coffee’d up and ready to run!  The plan today is a run, a quick Pilates workout, and maybe a little yoga.  And more coffee.  And a lot of playing with the Barbie Glamor Camper.  And maybe some nerf action. 🙂

Are you working out today?  Holiday workouts are some of my favorite, I think it’s because it feels like in the hubbub of it all I am treating myself to something good on so many levels.

I took a little inspiration from this quote yesterday,
“Much may be done in those little shreds and patches of time which every day produces, and which most [wo]men throw away.” – Charles Caleb Colton
and squeezed in about 75 push-ups throughout the day.  This may be how I do Pilates today, the hundreds here, a few double leg stretches there.
Have a wonderful day, whether you are celebrating Christmas or just the weekend!

Present Yourself

Until I was about 10 or so I thought that Christmas Eve was the day.  When my mom was growing up her family always celebrated on the eve by opening all of their presents and so we continued this tradition.  I still kind of think of Christmas as occuring on the 24th.  If you celebrate Christmas, is today or tomorrow more significant for you?

This being a holiday and all, it’s an extra special COMMENT COMMIT!

I just returned from an awesome 40 minute run.  It’s cold, crisp, and clear and an absolutely gorgeous morning here in WV.

Yesterday I gifted myself with a 10 pound kettlebell and was hoping to get a little strength training in but I am getting picked up by my mother-in-law soon.   She and I are heading to Northern Virginia to Tate’s sister’s for the weekend (Tate will drive up from Charlottesville).  I’ve been wanting to check out kettlebell training for a while and finally convinced myself to buy one.  I am really looking forward to swinging it around!

Do you have plans to get moving today?  Today may be an excellent time to take a rest day.  On the other hand, if you’re like me than getting some exercise in today will make the time with family and the holiday food all the more enjoyable.   It’s always important to find the balance between doing things just for you and caring for others and fulfilling obligations.

A very happy holiday to you and yours!
