I’m Sorry China But…

Just in case there was any question about the inferiority of white rice compared to brown rice-

there’s an environmental cost as well as nutritional!

(Sorry China, I know speaking out against white rice is a certain kind of sacrilege.)

Breathe and Reboot

Ahhhh, so we finally made it out of the hostel yesterday.

Tate and I went on a little hike and a walk around town, and only got a little wet!  The hike ended pretty quickly.  It was really beautiful but after about 15 minutes we got stuck in a mosquito infested bamboo jungle and I was NOT HAPPY

Tate was enjoying himself!

It felt great to be outside though and get a little exercise.  Post-hike was went looking for some fruit and veg because I was in need of some raw food.    And it was DELICIOUS!   I snacked on some yummy plums, a cucumber, and a carrot.

I told you it’s been raining A LOT!

After our walk it was time for dinner.  We had an appetizer of grilled tofu on the way to the restaurant.

Tate and I each ate one square.  It was tasty but oversalted and overoiled, like a lot of food in China.

Dinner was tasty and very nutritious.   Tomato and egg soup, a thin plain broth with lots of tomatoes and about two eggs.  Poached? Scrambled?  Somewhere in-between… It is pretty boring really but when you’re eating out 2-3 times a day sometimes you need simple, and the broth was great on my sore throat.  I also ate a big plate of stir fried veggies with shiitake mushrooms, great for the immune system!

We picked up some passionfruit from a street vendor on the way back to the hostel.

O.K., I know, a food photographer I am not…I’ll keep working on it!

(They were delicious though, a bit tart and really fragrant)
